CHARACTER

In the course of last week, I went to the gas station to buy gas (Petrol) with a gallon.
I was not driving. I went there on a motor cycle. As soon as we got there, we were headed for a particular pump where one young man (A pump attendant) was just seated and chatting away, not attending to any other person. As we got closer to him, he directed us to another pump that is at the other extreme. We obeyed and headed to the other pump as if he was doing us a favor. May be he was actually doing us a favor, forgetting that on that same street; there are three other gas stations.
We headed for the pump at the other extreme as instructed. As soon as we got close to the pump, the attendant (Another young man) who has just finished selling to a motor-cycle
and was about hanging the pump. He also pointed us to the middle pump where there is a young lady seated.
At this point I was furious, I stopped and asked them; what is the meaning of their actions? Nobody could answer me, instead they started to pass blame and give excuses. Now before you start to blame anyone and rant.
·        Is this not how you behave where you work?
·        Are you not working more when your boss is around?
·        Don’t you leave work undone and engage in idle chatter because your boss is not on seat? And immediately he arrives you become a workaholic (‘eye service’)
·        Can you be proud of how you handle your daily task when your boss is not on seat or out of town?
Our character is much more than just our reputation. Our character is who we really are, even when no one is watching. Having a good character means doing the right thing just because it is right to do what is right.

Have a successful week.
